Bikram Yoga, developed by yoga champion Bikram Choudhury (b. 1946) beginning in the 1960s, is a demanding 90 minute long workout consisting of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises that is done in an order to help your body function in optimal form and balance without the aid of supplements or drugs of any kind. This yoga is practiced in a room that is heated to 105 to 107 degrees and 40 to 45% humidity to help the body be able to stretch, to help the body detoxify, and provide for an invigorating cardiovascular workout.
Bikram Yoga can be practiced by anybody — from first time students that have never done a yoga posture in their entire life to those that have significant yoga experience. You will have worked every muscle, joint, ligament, and organ in your body by the time you wrap up your workout as the postures aim to deliver oxygen to all parts of the body for natural bodily rejuvenation and therapy. As such, it is both a therapeutic and a preventative workout as it helps reduce stress and can help relieve symptoms of chronic illnesses or injury.
For over forty years, scientific and anecdotal evidence has shown how beneficial practicing Bikram Yoga can be. Practicing Bikram Yoga regularly has shown to help people with numerous illnesses and other ailments such as back pain, hyper- and hypotension, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, and depression. Further benefits include weight loss, improves fitness and flexibility, helps relieve and prevent injuries, improves athletic performance, provides pain and stress relief, and helps clear your mind.
